Why oh why are they priced 289 and 399 Euro's in The Netherlands? Who comes up with these stupid high prices here at Apple in Europe?

Ooohhh. So being on a salary, even a measly one for a basic desk job, means you are now at your employers beck and call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, come hell or high water? Got it. So, if more work comes in and the amount you are given to do increases substantially, you just suck it up and work that many more hours because they won't hire more people for the extra work? That sounds like a pretty awful world...but pretty much what goes on. Too bad people like you manage to convince people it's how life should be.

Of course that is ridiculous, and I totally agree there should be a line, but where do we draw it? Who gets to draw it?

What about a hotshot stock trader making a killing working 80+ hours a week on salary. Should we be allowed to work this much without overtime?

I realize it is an obscure analogy, but it is valid nonetheless.

I thought 10 Mega Pixels were possible with some tech that is suppose to arrive at the end of this year for phones.

The weak link is the lens. Basic physics says that the resolving power of a lens is proportional to it's diameter divided by the wavelenght of light. Light is not going to change any time soon so if you want to get a clear sharp image you need a certain physical diametr lens. If for some reason you can't have a big lens then what's the point of using a 10MP sensor? Actually if the device is size constrained using fewer pixels on the same size sensor (larger pixels) will improve low light performance. Bottom line: There is an optimum number of pixels, more is not better.

On the other hand if you are selling to un-educated buyers "we got more MPs" is good for marketing purposes even if it is counter productive on technical grounds

Why did they say "went bad"? As robberies go killing the robber is about as good as it gets.

It was either the guard or the robber, and if the robber wins, other innocent people may get shot too. You may not understand it, unless it happened to someone close to you.

If the robber had a gun, he planned to use it if necessary. He was not going to have any consideration for whoever he shoots, as long as he could get away with his crime.

Say there was a stand 'Mac Users for Bush' at a show. I might think, 'That's odd' or I might have said, 'Bush is a ********' if one of them gave me a leaflet but I wouldn't try to get them booted out of the show because I don't have a problem with free speech and free debate.

Let's not be naive - Greenpeace were ejected because certain elements didn't like an activist group planting negative images of Apple in the Mac market's heads and so had them removed. It was nothing to do with the leaflets - they were censored. It's fine if you take an authoritarian 'anyone can be censored on private property' stance but don't claim it's because Greenpeace caused any kind of unacceptable incident.

I use my 2010 27" iMac as a monitor for a PC gaming rig that utilizes the mini-display port and I must say that this will be the last iMac I own until they change this. This was one of main selling points for me since I could still use a pc and not have to suffer with the iMac's poor gaming performance.

No matter how you slice it, the integrated video card with the current iMacs CANNOT drive the resolution these displays use.

The only option is build a high end PC that can push that kinda resolution at decent framerates.

Now that they have removed the option and restricted it to TB only display ports, we are now forced to "upgrade" to a new mac tho it still cant hold a candle to whats available to system builders today.

I made the switch to Mac years and years ago but I think it's finally run it's course. When this thing takes a **** and they offer me a new one through my Apple Care, I'll sell it and buy a real display an perhaps mac mini.

Apple has fallen so far behind the desktop computing business and its clear they want to funnel their remaining customers through this purchase path.

Apple still doesn't have upload to a cloud or wireless syncing, and Windows Phone does. 25 GB free sky drive, as well as a beautiful hub where you choose what to access at a glance. In iOS, you have to flick and flick, especially if you have many apps. The wireless syncing is slick. Facebook integration flawless. WP7 also now has cut, copy, and paste and HTML5 before the end of the year. I'm sorry, but hooking up with the largest mobile phone manufacture is a no brainer.

    1. MobileMe provides upload to a cloud for photos / movies / etc.

    2. No need to flick if you have many Apps, just swipe left from the main Home Page and you have instant access to 'Search', type the first letter of the app you want and there you go. VERY QUICK.

Make it thinner and lighter like the Macbook Air and I'd be sold. It'll basically be a more powerful and more functional Macbook Air. I'd take it!

MacCentral posted (http://www.macworld.com/2006/09/firstlooks/imacbench/index.php) a first look at the new Core 2 Duo iMac along with some early benchmarks.

The new iMacs which were released on Wednesday (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060906091309.shtml) incorporate the latest Core 2 Duo processor from Intel. The Core 2 Duo represents the continuation of the Core Duo line which first made its appearance in Apple computers in January. Intel has maintained that the new chips would provide roughly 20% improvement in performance.

MacCentral tested the new 17" 2GHz iMac and 20" 2.16GHz iMac and compared them to the previous 20" 2GHz Core Duo and the 2.66GHz Mac Pro.

The most direct comparison between the two processors comes between the 17" 2GHz Core 2 Duo iMac and the 20" 2GHz Core Duo iMac. The overall score was 10% better in the new model while the individual tests showed gains up to 20%.

Wonder how the 24" iMac at 2.33GHz will fare.

If this "mall cop" also happens to be an off-duty police officer moonlighting at a second job, I'm not surprised at the outcome. Police officers are rightfully taught to shoot to kill. A wounded criminal can still kill an officer wheras a dead one cannot. Unfortunate outcome, but the simple truth is don't commit armed robbery.

A mid-tower between the Mini and Pro seems to be the only possible home for Conroe. And, even though I would love to buy one, I'm not sure if Apple really want to release such a machine.

You never know though, we could be in for a nice surprise sometime soon.

I for one need just this kind of setup. I use a mini, but it's integrated graphics is a bit pokey and cost difference between that and a Mac Pro leaves me with no choice but to endure the mini for a bit longer. The iMac is perfect, in terms of performance, but I don't want an all-in-one white computer at work. This is the downside to Apple taking a minimilist approach to their product offering. I think they could add a mid-tower without compicating things.

The logo on the center of the record is an apple sliced in half. Again, it looks nothing like Apple's logo.

You're right. Apple doesn't use an Apple for their logo.

Microsoft is suing homebuilders for offering "Windows" in their homes. Instead, they need to refer to them as "transparent viewing portals".

Where were you when Apple sued NYC for using "Big Apple" in its travel brochure? Apple is being a dick in this case.

    Section 4b: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/iphone.pdf

That section states that by turning off Location Services, the data won't be tracked/collected. I think that these guys are saying that the data still is being collected, regardless of what your Location settings are.

It also appears from the granularity of the data that it isn't reliant on Core Location being active on the phone. In other words, the phone isn't logging your location only when you call up a GPS-enabled app and when the little compass needle warning icon appears in the top bar -- if it were, you'd expect most people's data to be mostly blank, with brief entries when they use Maps or another location aware feature. In our testing, however, Victor can see log entries every few minutes, all day, every day -- going back nine months. Meanwhile, Kelly H cannot see anything on her CDMA (i.e. Verizon) iPhone -- it's possible the data is only logged on GSM models. 3G iPads appear to log the info as well.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a really thin flip phone. The ipod functionality would be on the outside of the flip (ie click wheel) and the keypad would be on the inside of the flip. Close the flip and the exposed LCD shows a normal ipod screen. Open the flp and the screen shows the phone interface.

It would have to be really thin, but I like it!

These guys knew there was going to be a component of danger in their heist. Hence, they brought loaded guns with them. If they did want to run the risk of being shot and killed, they should've stayed home in bed.

It just amazes me how many idiots are on this board crying foul because a person in law enforcement killed a criminal who was trying to not only rob a store, but also trying to kill him.

One step closer to the MacBook Air update.

I swear, this guy never seems happy about anything. I seem to recall him saying this for other product releases... $10 says he'll say it again once the MBA is released.

Sometimes it helps to do a quick search. ;)

They do have surround sound support. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304277#faq26)

Yes, they have surround sound, but not Dolby Digital. Quicktime can't even decode 5.1 audio (you need a third party plugin (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27300) for that.)
