 ALready has Friend Jailbreaking is already legal

So you used the terms "I will revel in the day" and "yes it will happen" for something that's already happened?

    Uh...ok.

Based on your future tense I assumed you meant the day when Apple will actually endorse Jailbreaking directly, not the day they'd be forced to simply allow it. Apparently you were using future tense to talk about past events, so you can see how I got confused.

fortunately, i'm on cingular - great coverage, great phones, and a great probability of finding the supposed iPhone in the lineup.

but, that would be admitting to actually believing this rumor, which, well.. what's the saying become? "new powerbooks next tuesday!" if you know what i mean...

What I've wondered since they killed the xServe is what they plan to fill their new data center with. Mac Pros on shelves? 1 billion minis? They aren't going to run it all on PCs. It would be a marketing disaster.

haha. Love people saying they will move phones if we don't see the new iphone this year.

Are people really that fed up with what they currently have?

I've a 3gs and it's plugging away quite nicely. I don't need a new phone but I would like one when it does come out.

I'm looking forward to lion and iPad giving me my Apple fix for the year. Why can't we just let Apple get it right instead of jumping all over them?

Does this mean I shouldn't bother installing Sophos for my mpb?
    So many conflicting opinions.

Some think, including myself, that AV software at this point in time does not provide very much extra protection so using AV software is just a waste of system resources.

But, I use ClamXav anyway given that it uses very little cpu cycles. ClamXav does fail to release RAM after a scan but should give up those resources if needed by another process. ClamXav only chronically uses these resources if you set up the Sentry. If the Sentry is not used, then it only uses resources during an on-demand scan. On-demand scans can be set to run automatically at a specific time via the ClamXav UI that adds the scan settings to cron. ClamXav gives you more options related to how it will take up resources. Other AV software, such as Sophos, for Mac includes full on-access scanning that doesn't give you choice in how resources are used by the AV software.

I use AV software to prevent accidentally spreading Windows malware to Windows users. There are trojans for Mac OS X but these can be easily avoided by not password authenticating install prompts that you have not explicitly initiated (double clicked), not installing pirated software, and not installing free software from untrusted sources. Also, Mac OS X, as of Snow Leopard, includes a basic AV scanner that detects these trojans when you attempt to install the malware.

Do not run AV software if you do not want to give up resources to most likely only prevent the accidental spread of Windows malware, such as by forwarding an infected email. Or, run AV software most likely for little benefit to yourself. Additionally, ClamXav does include new definitions for Mac malware a fair bit of time prior to those definitions being included in XProtect (the AV scanner in Snow Leopard). Also, XProtect can not be used for an on-demand scan to check for malware after it may have been installed, so AV software may give you peace of mind if you do not feel comfortable not having AV software on your system.

No problem. I kind of thought that you might be outside the US and not factoring in the Verizon models.

Think about it: it might be 24, with iPad1 still on the market......:)

finally someone reasonable! so many of you flippin fools don't realize what WWDC stands for...

    World wide DEVELOPER'S conference!

this is about professional stuff. in they launched the powermac g5, because developers could then write 64-bit apps…

And they also launched the iSight at the '03 WWDC (and gave one to everyone attending IIRC) cause we all know how developers need that.

A Steve Keynote is a Steve Keynote. Call it MWSF or WWDC it doesn't matter, the press will eat it up just the same and, luckily for us, Steve knows that. :)

I can understand the death of XServe. A product that doesn't make money should't stay around, it is simple as that. Such a dual purpose machine would allow Apple to address a broader range of user needs.

In any event I think part for the reason XServe failed was the lines limited nature. Like it or not a 1U server is still limited in capability. Also this idea that TB will effectively replace PCI-E slots is a bit crazy in my mind. Some cards simply need the lowest possible cost implementation and compatibility with PC hardware. In other words a Mac Pro without PCI slots would be crazy on Apples part.

I love that argument - who told Apple to only make 1 phone? Nobody it was their decision. This is PC vs Mac all over again - history repeating itself.

I can't wait to see how Steve Jobs spins this somehow at WWDC - my guess is he'll throw iPod Touches and iPads into their numbers so it doesn't look as horrible as the Nielsen chart shows.

At the end of the day, the truth hurts - Android is the new defacto platform for mobile and that means developers, developers, developers.

    Next up...tablets :D

You do realize that Apple takes in healthy profit from selling Mac's right? They do not need 90% market share to turn a massive profit. They would love it but don't need it.

Does anyone think that this could possibly be about having OS X running on ARM..... i.e OS X iPads etc. With the type of convergence we are seeing in Lion, it is only a matter of time before iOS and OS X become one and the same.

Yay let us all surrender our privacy to the cloud... Sometimes I feel like the only one that understands the long term implications cloud based computer has when we allow our content and log files on others' servers. Thankfully I know I'm not the only one though.

Here's to hoping they correct the obvious problems like notifications, poor photo organizational control, a corrected USB voltage, and a simple central file system (I know, not holding my breath).

I also expect the Mac Mini to receive a dual-core Merom.

That may not be true since the mini is suppose to be cheap. The cheapest Conroe is $60 less then the cheapest meron.

I wonder however if the engineers can do it. Lets see what happens.

LOL, sorry but I find this really hard to believe. What with Intel's recent announcement of the 22nm "3D" tri-gate transistor based Processors coming out this year which are even lower power etc... I just doubt Apple could get something as good from an ARM chip.

I guess Apple having more control, a'la the A4/A5 chips in iOS gear is appealing to them.. but if they want so much control, why not buy Foxxcon and all their other suppliers too? (maybe that's their aim with all that cash they're sitting on).

-Sync wirelessly (No more messing with that iTunes syncing madness)
    -SD Card (Expandable storage)
-File manager (Operates more like a PC)
-Can actually attach files in the stock E-Mail app (IPad cannot)
-Photo file management in stock photo app (Not possible in iPad without iTunes syncing madness)
    -USB Port (This is HUGE)
    -HDMI (Also pretty huge)
    -Decent cameras
    -Flash
    -UI looks very cool.

Haven`t held a Xoom yet so just working from posted specs..
But I do have an iPad 1. Quite a disappointing experience for a power user.

    The games rock though!!

I did play with the Xoom right after it came out on my of my Best Buy visits (the same one that is not not working that I revisited last night). I personally didn't care for it. Too chaotic on the interface, but I can see where the more technogadget people would like it. But I think the more general consumer will have issues with it as it's just not as clean as iOS on the iPad.

I do think the Android and potentially RIM tablet will catch on. It's foolish to think Apple will be the only major player in the long run. The market is potentially too big. But Apple has a huge advantage right now as it seems Moto, Samsung and others are rushing products to market and not giving the best experience for the masses.

All I can say is Apple better be coming out with a mid-range tower. Upping the baseline of the MacPro to $2500, what is that. Sure it looks like a sweet computer, but what about small businesses or starving artists who cant afford that. Now we're stuck with the all-in-ones.

You can configure it down in price as well you know. You can get 2.0 Ghz Xeons instead. If the store did not keep timing out on me, I'd tell you how much cheaper that would make it.
