I am not sure about you, but on composite that HTC with a 4" screen is noticeably larger in every possible way over the iPhone 4.
Sure it is only 5% taller, but 12% wider and almost 50% thicker as well as 15% heavier.
Perhaps you don't know anything about Apple, but they take the size of their devices very seriously.
I also don't understand how some of you think it is possible to have a significantly larger screen without making the phone bigger. It is not like the current iPhone has a lot of space. Again it seems people just read a bigger number and think it must be better. If we left it up to other companies smartphones would all be twice as thick and weigh twice as much as they do now, while being massively unwieldy. Apple actually has an aesthetic set of benchmarks that are important to them as anything else. It is not only aesthetic either, but actually using the device and carrying it around, the size makes a big difference.
My 3.5" iPhone 4 screen is pretty amazing, especially considering the size and weight of the device. Much more impressive than any 4" screened device I have seen.

Still happy with TT kit. No rattling noise and both landscape and portrait hold in position well. Only issue I have is using aux for music through the car stereo. I continute to get a slight hissing noise which is annoying. If music is loud and heavy base, then I don't hear any distracting noise--but slow or soft music does have the noise. This seems to be the case whether I go from car jack to iphone or from tt kit to iphone to car jack. bummer.

Even more disturbing, the major stakeholder in the Bahrain bank is none other than the Central Bank of Libya, which owns 59 percent of the operation. In fact, the Bahrain bank just received a special exemption from the U.S. Treasury to prevent its assets from being frozen in accord with economic sanctions. That's right: Muammar Qaddafi received more than 70 loans from the Federal Reserve, along with the Real Housewives of Wall Street.
Perhaps the most irritating facet of all of these transactions is the fact that hundreds of millions of Fed dollars were given out to hedge funds and other investors with addresses in the Cayman Islands. Yes, even Waterfall TALF Opportunity is an offshore company. Maybe I'm out in right field with this suggestion, but how about a further separation between the black Macbook and the white, other than color?
Macbooks (white) - Yonah and integrated graphics (960?)
Macbook (black) - Merom and the new integrated graphics (965???)
That would certainly justify the black's higher cost and would give it more of a punch to be that PB 12" replacement.
This makes perfect sense as Apple has already dub the Black Macbook the "Top of the Line" yet there isn't really a difference between it and the Midrange so by adding The new processor and graphics chip Apple would essentially create the Top of the Line MacBook

It's actually pretty sad that Android does not have the majority of the market.. They have new phones being released every other week. A 'newer and better' than last weeks. They make their phones go obsolete faster than anything I've ever seen. They released the Nexus One and that was suppose to be their amazing device... Is that even around anymore? Pretty sure like a month later they had a better one out.
Apple has released 4 iPhone's. Android has released more in a months time... And Apple STILL owns the market. They should really be ashamed. Maybe if they actually spent their time working on ONE great device and released it every like 8 months or even every year.. then maybe I could see potential. Yup. Ever since our government and our dollars allow larger companies to strong arm smaller businesses to manufacture their products cheaper overseas, thereby shutting down American plants and businesses, we shot ourselves in the collective foot.
Google Walmart and Rubbermaid. The growing trend in overseas production was kicked in high gear when Walmart threatened Rubbermaid that they would pull their product if they didn't shut down their American businesses to manufacture their products in cheaper bulk in China. Rubbermaid refused as they employed thousands of Americans, and not just in production plants but in marketing, etc. In 1994 Walmart pulled all Rubbermaid products from their shelves, Rubbermaid lost 60%+ of their business, almost went bankrupt, was bought by another company, shut down their plants, and acquiesced to Walmart. Walmart then went into the towns where Rubbermaid once employed so many and built Walmarts. Now ex-Rubbermaid employees who had pensions, 401k's and 100K+ salaries are forced to shell out cheap Chinese goods at minimum wage.

I've just been wanting one for so long, and all I've been waiting for is a processor trade-out, that I'll be happy with just that. Of course I'll be quite please if they implement the easy access HD bay. Better still, a better gfx card would make me pee my pants a little.

I would love one and would buy a tablet from apple if they came out with one. I take notes on all sorts of stuff, and its not efficient to scan my scribbles into a computer. I'm not a fast typer and frankly typing is harder on my hands than writing. As far as PDA's go they are not bad but the screens are too small for me and dont seem powerful enough (my experience with a dell axim).
I've been tempted by PC tablets, but they are often underpowered, limited to 14" screens, and fragile. I think if you got rid of these issues they would be a good all in one solution as opposed to the hybrid laptop/handheld that tablets are now which seems to combine the worst of both worlds.
Will apple release this? Only if they can find an angle, to convince consumers to buy it. It does seem like wishful thinking...:(

Mobileme is certainly worth more than free. Apple doesn't scrape your emails and other data to target adds at you a la Google.

You own the piece of hardware, but you only have a license that gives you the right to use the software that is required to operate the hardware.
The catch, is unlike computers - the hardware in many new devices (phones, routers, TVs, etc), is highly proprietary and the manufacturers of the chips refuse to release any white papers/information sheets on how to program for the chip.
In other words, you couldn't port Linux to the iPhone if you wanted to. Apple could pull a page out of Motorola's book and make a chip that bricks itself in the face of unsigned, 3rd party hardware.
Look at the depths Sony is going to in order to keep people from Linux on the PS3 now.
In a sense, you really DON'T own the hardware in these situations. Frankly, I'm surprised Apple even bothers to sell iPhones, they should just put them out on 2 year leases and then claim the phone back at the end.

I had to let mine lapse recently, but I still get my .mac mail. I plan to renew soon, $99 or not. It's worth the cost to me, if it gets good servers to host it on.

salmon, you hit the nail on the head with that post. A device like that would be amazing, I could totally see myself using it in classes, etc. And though I'm not sure about the $300 price point, but I think its completely doable for under $1000.

While I'm not saying there will or won't be hardware at WWDC, The Loop's interpretation of the invitation is just plain incorrect. If they have other sources that indicate no hardware, fair enough, but the invitation to WWDC 2011 is not enough to base this rumor on.
Let's look at past WWDC invitations and events:
WWDC2010 : "The center of the app universe" - iPhone 4
WWDC2009 : "Make your mark here" - MacBook Pros, iPhone 3GS
WWDC2008 : "A landmark event, in more ways than one" - iPhone 3G
WWDC2007 : "Save the date", themed leopard - No hardware
They apparently do have other sources. There are also a lot of other sources as well that have been saying there would be no new iphone 5 this summer. And also, look at the events you list above. When Leopard was introduced at WWDC in there was no hardware. I expect then when they introduce Lion (WWDC 2011), there will be no hardware either, just like all the analysts are saying now. Somewhat. I definately will miss the cool clear shade on the G5. I would always run that computer with the aluminum cover off. Looked so nice. It would have been nice if they put XEON on the inside somewhere. Just too plain inside.
I would swear the mac pro is shorter though. Is it just me?
