Since Apple is now doing more form factor differentiation than chip differentiation, they should come out with a tablet product line (3 sizes) and see where it goes. They will likely sell more copies than 17 inch MacBookPros so it should be economical.
By simply offering the product line, they wil get user feedback and increased capability versions year after year.
The Windows equivalent devices seem to start from scratch every year.

2. What applications do you need that a Mac Mini Core Duo can't handle? Oh, games? Why in the sweet baby Jesus' name are you on MACrumors if you're a gamer? Apple cedes your kind to Dellienware. Go. Shoo. Leave the grownups alone.
Here's other point of view: I want to use OSX in everyday use (Safari, Mail, iTunes, graphic design, Dreamweaver etc... and OSX overall). But sometimes I want to play games too, and it's awesome that nowadays it's possible to boot into Windows and play games there and then boot back into OSX. Are you saying that Apple should totally forget all users who would like to use OSX but occasionally play games on Windows, and let them buy PCs? Most of the gamers do not use their computer ONLY to play games. Consumer tower would be good for Apple to get new switchers and get more marketshare.

There is a 0% chance that Apple is going to go another year or more without an iPhone release.
FFS if they released an iPhone 4.01 with 2 megs more ram and a .01% faster processor, about 10 million people would line up on launch day for it. They're leaving money on the table if they don't release something. Anything.

Interesting. I see your point and quite frankly I agree, I do however believe that Apple will announce it because the chips are definately out and running, Apple wants to stay ABOVE cutting edge, so why wouldn't they announce the chips?Yeah, what would be the best thing Steve could do Monday is to announce an across the board shift to Core 2 immediately. I don't have the courage to predict this will happen. But it would be the coolest thing in a long time if it does. :cool:
I agree with you it would make the most sense to just do it all at once instead of incrementally - esp since it's only FIVE MONTHS 'til the January 9 SF MacWorld SteveNote where the OctoCore Mac Pro will likely be added above the Quad - maybe even the Leopard release.

Just an observation. But, wouldnt it be quicker to just go to an apple store and purchase one rather than wait weeks to get one thru the mail. I know when MBP go to merom, i will be one of the first ones in the store. Maybe im wrong.

Wow apple is way out of line here, this is not right. That's like if the first company to create a netbook sued every other company who made a netbook afterward.
Apple does not license elements of its OS to others, unlike Microsoft. There is no reason for one netbook maker to sue another when they both license their OS from Microsoft. The only IP among netbook makers is any proprietary software and hardware design. The two issues are completely different. Apple actually owns the patents to those things they are suing over.

wow, most importantly on slide 3 they say that they launched the 965 chipset. that means they can switch to the 965 integrated GPU across the board for consumer macs. that would certainly help the heat issues, make the macs cheaper and less complicated to design for apple. standard parts and boards allow for even faster updates. good news.

Anyway I'm on verizon and its been nothing but problems with them for the past year or so. Their 'can you hear me now' network has turned into the 'what? hello? HELLO? *click*' network. I'll be happy to switch if the new phone is not on verizon.
I'm pretty happy with VZW service. Their phones are lousy and crippled, but after trying every other provider, VZW was the only one who had almost perfect service in NYC, and I need reliable service more than I need a shiny phone.

While I agree in a sense, it's commonly known that there's no way to plug every hole, so you're scooping out water from a sinking ship with a cup. Every iOS device has been jailbroken since release, many several times using several exploits. There will never be a day when a software company will be smarter than the hacking community... software companies can't afford to buy them all :-)
The hacking community isn't any smarter than the people at Apple. The tools used by the jailbreak community, and by Charlie Miller are standard tools that Apple developers have access to as well. For some reason Apple don't seem to be making great use of those tools.

Apple need to up their game. iOS and OSX are seriously in need of major security improvements. If/when Apple quit treating security as MSs problem, jail breaking will become extremely hard. That's a good thing.
Now, will the jail break community just bugger off to Android? Most likely. Are there enough of them that Apple will care? I couldn't say. If there are, then maybe that'll be a useful lesson for Apple, and a bit more effort will be put into allowing users to tweak their phone natively.

There will always be a paid upgrade, and apple will skillfully construct their free plan to make sure everybody using will want the paid version.
I'll happily switch to mobileMe for my calendar, contacts, etc. but I'm staying with gmail for the email. Find my iWhatever would be lovely, I'd rather not rely on Undercover or some other solution that a burglar with half a brain cell would not open.

OK. Call me naive; but it seems the privacy war was lost a long time ago... there is apparently much money to be made by reenacting the battle;
consider the logistics of tracking, storing, and sorting through, what is it 120 million, consolidated.db files. Why. Yes, we are talking about small computer files that may just take minutes to sort through, but who cares what I do? I can assure you that in the grand scheme of things my life is meaningless and so are my consolidated.db files...

I don't see how anyone has a huge dilemma. If you're saying those that bought a 3GS on launch, didn't upgrade last year, and now are at the end of a 2 year have a "problem", that doesn't sound like much of a problem to me.
Call up AT&T and say your contract is up, you'd like to renew and buy a new iPhone which you qualify for, but you're not buying a new iPhone until iPhone 5 comes out. If they don't allow you a grace period until iPhone 5 is available, tell them you're gone, and that Verizon seems like a good option since AT&T doesn't want you for another 2 years.
The difference between public policy and what they can/will do for you when you're "threatening" to switch, is very different. The only time you have any leverage to get something you want out of AT&T is a once every two years opportunity when you're contract is up and you have the option of switching.
Am I completely missing the point here, or do you and the person you are responding to not understand cell phone contracts?
Your plan is separate from your contract. This is how you have family plans where each line is under a different contract dates.
When a contract is up, nothing changes except that you have the ability to upgrade and sign a new contract OR to cancel your service at any time.

If Apple was found to be abusing its position... yes. But this is NOT my point, my point was 'countries start to investigate Apple due to a shortage of components due to Apple buying up the available stock for a prolonged period of time'. This is very different from Apple being found guilty etc etc.

Its simple supply and demand.
NOTHING is stopping RIM from going to the manufacturers and offering MORE money than Apple. NOTHING.
On the other side, the manufacturers cannot make enough panels to keep up with Apple (Apple's customers) demand for the panel (the iPad).
In any business if you want more of something quicker when it is in limited supply the cost is going to go up.
It has nothing to do with abusing market position.

we first add whats in the parentheses (9+3)= 12
second step we multiply 2(12) =24
final step 48/24 = 2
the people who are getting 288
are adding (9+3) =12
then they are skipping an order of operations and going straight to division 48/2 =24
24 * 12 = 288
Does division come after multiplication in order of operations? I had always thought you treated both multiplication and division the same and executed those operations sequentially, reading left to right.
