I have used Sophos Endpoint Security Small Business Edition in various forms in small businesses since Fall 2005. There have been a few false positives early on, and a higher rate of requests to send samples of suspicious code to Sophos Labs, compared with Symantec's corporate software offerings.
The difference between the free home edition and the corporate Mac client seem to be the stripping away of remote management interface and the ability to receive local AV updates. The executables are almost exactly the same size.
For those who insist that Mac OS X needs not AV protection, I politely disagree. May I call you the Mary Mallon camp? Who was Mary Mallon? She was an Irish immigrant to the US at the turn of the last century. She was a cook. Today we know her as "Typhoid Mary". Approximately 30 people died as a direct result of the Typhus virus she carried, but was apparently immune to.
Martin Luther King said that "None of us are free unless all of us are free." Taken to a new context, computer security, "None of us are secure unless all of us are secure." Yes, Macs may be largely immune in today's threat environment." But threats change. But we all communicate with the Windows world. Please consider taking one for the team and getting some sort of AV. This is one excellent option. It runs on Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server just fine.
So which are you? Mary Mallon or Typhoid Mary? I am sure that it seemed very unfair to Mary Mallon that she should be quarantined when she showed no symptoms. Which is the greater good?
Incidentally, Sophos for the Mac is also an excellent tool for fighting viruses on Windows PCs and Servers. Using Snow Leopard's undocumented (and not ready for prime time) NTFS read/write mount capability (e.g. NTFSMounter) one can scan for viruses on an NTFS volume and remove them. (One cannot remove rootkits completely or scan the Windows registry. This is only a first step.) This can be a valuable first step in removing viruses and other malware from an infected PC or Server. (The next step is to scan from a virtual PC and dispose of that PC and replace with a fresh backup to guarantee no infection during the scan. Finally one uses tools on the running PC itself.)

I don't see how you can say that. None the less how anyone can confidently answer this question.
You arrive at 288 by multiplying 48/2 * (9+3), but that is assuming multiplication is the implied operator.
Multiplication is always what you do when there is a term directly adjacent the ()

Glad to read about Mac.
No so happy to read about the lack of iPhone hardware till possibly Sept :rolleyes:. I think if their going to wait until September, then we really need to consider the possibility of an LTE iPhone.
My thinking too. If, by waiting another three months, Apple could release an LTE version of the iPhone, this might make more sense for them.
Imagine what the holiday season would look like if more of their competitors were out with LTE phones and Apple was just standing pat with what amounted to a refresh of the iPhone 4. Instead, with an LTE iPhone out, they would avoid having tons of customers going over to Android.

Wow, I can't see this happening. There is too much momentum for them to wait 2 years in between phones. They will release a 4GS!
I think Apple will be fine no matter what, and if they feel it's better to make sure that new iterations of the phone are SIGNIFICANT improvements (after all, the iPhone has become Apple's signature device, even more than the Mac or the iPad) then perhaps they won't release a 4GS with just speed improvements.
It will be hard to top significant upgrade from 3GS to the 4G, especially when you consider build quality and the Retina Display, which is still the sharpest screen on the market.

As I stated above, you are missing an Important rule of pemdas. When you get to multiplication/division or addition/subtraction, you go left to right. So: 48/2 is 24. And 24 *12 is 288. If u don't believe me, just google pemdas and u get the rules:

the general availablity for the merom and woodcrest chips yet??
All of the benchmarks that people were drooling over the last couple of weeks were for the conroe, which is the desktop version.
So, it would not surprise me at all to see a delay in a merom based machine (or a woodcrest for that matter).

Love the look and feel of the current model - makes everything else on the market look like cheap junk. I hope the rumor is true and Apple leaves the external design as-is. Like the Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, this is a design that will look great for many years.

couldn't they just release it as an UNLOCKED phone, sell it on their site and allow us to use it with who ever?I'm sure they would. If they did choose to only make it available to Verizon/T-Mobile etc then they would either have to sell unlocked versions in other countries where those networks don't operate or loose a large amount of sales.

Yay let us all surrender our privacy to the cloud... Sometimes I feel like the only one that understands the long term implications cloud based computer has when we allow our content and log files on others' servers. Thankfully I know I'm not the only one though.

I'd rather not have all of my data on a massive public server, available to Apple, advertisers and any government agency at all times. Those claiming that "it's encrypted" are not fully appreciating the security implications of not having control over the implementation of said encryption. For example, SSL/HTTPS is "encrypted" as well, but since Certificate Authorities give signed master-key certificates to all government intelligence and law enforcement agencies, it isn't technically 100% secure (despite mathematically unbreakable encryption).
Taking off the tin-foil hat and simply thinking about economics: I still don't understand how cloud computing is actually going to become a dominant market force. There are now only 3 wireless providers in the US, forming a tight oligopoly, and all of them are incredibly stingy with data caps and limitations. Moreover, there are only a handful of unique internet providers in the US and all are cutting client bandwidth, raising prices and instituting throttling or monthly data caps. So it would seem that big software companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google are pushing the idea of streaming everything; but internet providers only want to supply bandwidth for their own cable TV services. Something just doesn't add up. How is one supposed to have no local storage and just stream music and video when their wireless connection only allows for 2GB/month and their home ISP throttles everything other than its own cable TV service?

I'm expecting to get frustrated with the quality of streamed video of the keynote. Yes Steve, I am sure that it is "cool stuff", but it all looks like frog spawn to me!Lately the stream has been from an HD source and looks excellent. I'm afraid your expectations will not be realized. :) You understand it will not be live and post produced for optimum quality.
